Your laminate countertops have seen better days? You'd like to update their look but can only do it on a tight budget? No problem!
Revamp your countertops fast and on a low budget by following these 6 easy steps:
1- Fix the imperfections
Use plaster of Paris to fill holes or other imperfections that may have appeared over the years.
2- Sand
Sand the countertops to have a nice smooth surface and to remove the glossy finish of the laminate.
3- Wash
Wash the surface with an all purpose heavy duty cleaner TSP.
4- Apply primer
Prepare the countertops with an oil primer. This will help the new colour to stick to the surface.
5- Paint
Paints are available in all colours and finishes. Spray paints that look like granit or concrete are very interesting for countertops.
6- Varnish (optional)
If you applied 3 layers of 100% acrylic urethane floor paint, you don't need to varnish! If you rather have a hard and resistant layer that provides a smooth and glossy finish, apply Vitra-Laque, a thick resin blend.
VoilĂ ! You've got a brand new countertop!
What's also intersting to know is steps 1 through 5 can also be performed on laminate counter doors!
